ProVision wirelessly streams four 1080p signals to multiple HDTVs

ProVision, a major innovator of wireless video technology, has developed a new product that is a step toward eliminating the need for multiple set-top boxes to receive HD programming on televisions throughout your home.

At the CableLabs Summer Conference in Keystone, CO next week, ProVision will be showing the AXAR2010, an HD video system capable of wirelessly streaming four separate HDTV signals.

"AXAR software technologies are sold under an IP licensing model and will be integrated into set top boxes, TVs, DVD players and media routers from major consumer electronics manufacturers and multinational OEMs", said Steve Cliffe, CEO of ProVision, in an interview with Pocket-lint.

The AXAR2010 uses a standard 5GHz 802.11N wireless signal to stream 1080p HD video. The four channels function independently, to allow viewers in each location to each choose their programming from different sources if desired, whether live HDTV or recorded media from Blu-ray or DVR.

This latest Provision product is a step up from their Provision Axar Box, which debuted at CES 2010 and was capable of two separate simultaneous HD video streams.

Unfortunately, there is no word on when consumers may be able to take advantage of AXAR technology in their homes. However, Provision has stated that they are working with major companies in both the US and the UK.

I’m sure that HDTV cable and satellite providers are just as excited about this technology as their customers. While getting multiple HD receiver boxes for each TV in the home is a hassle and often expensive, it can’t be a picnic for the companies who track and lease the equipment either.

With more and more consumers getting hooked up with wireless routers and multiple HD televisions for separate rooms, there would likely be a good demand for ProVision’s AXAR devices. Hopefully we’ll start to see these systems hit the market soon.
