Reddit closes piracy related subreddits

Reddit has closed several subreddits, such as /r/FullMoviesOnAnything and /r/TVShowsOnAnything, for encouragement of piracy. The subreddits are closed and can’t be visited anymore. Users receive a notification stating the subreddit has been banned.

Users of the subreddits posted links to films and tv-series that could be streamed on illegal websites. Also /r/CrackedSoftware was closed. In this subreddit users posted links to pirated versions of software.

Reddit has stated there are several reasons for closing the subreddits. Some were closed because they violated Reddit’s rules on copyright infringement, others, such as /r/FullMoviesOnAnything_ were abused for spam, according to Reddit.

The website has closed several reddits in the recent months. Earlier this month a subreddit about a right wing conspiracy theory called QAnon was closed.

For now the largest piracy subreddit /r/Piracy is still available. On this subreddit users don’t share copyright protected content but only tips on how to download pirated content. Also /r/CrackWatch is still available, also here no copyright infringing content is shared, but the subreddit lists the latest cracks and bypasses for software.
