RunCore unveils InVincible SSD with smoking self-destruct

RunCore has launched its InVincible SSD line, claiming to provide the highest data security with two physically attached buttons, coloured green & red, giving the user a choice of whether to wipe or physically destroy the SSD. The SSD is designed for mission-critical fields including military and aerospace use.

When the green button is pushed, the SSD runs an intelligent elimination of its data by overwriting the entire SSD, similar to performing a secure erase, bringing the SSD back to its “FF-filled” factory default state. The red button applies a less subtle method, which involves physical destruction of the SSD by physically burning out the NAND flash memory with an over-current, emitting a puff of smoke in the process, as seen in its demonstration video.

Based on its YouTube video, InVincible SSD features up to 240MB/s read, up to 140MB/s write and Random 4K performance of about 4600 IOPS based on its CrystalDiskMark results. The SSD comes in a choice of MLC and SLC and is designed for extreme conditions including a very wide temperature range of -45C to +95C.
