The Backup Plus Portable measures 113 x 76 mm and contains, according to Seagate, a single platter that is responsible for the 4TB capacity. The 2.5" model should become available in August with a MSRP of $239. Till now, Seagate only offered Portable Plus HDDs with capacities of up to 2TB.

A deal between Seagate and Microsoft means buyers of the HDD receive 200GB of cloud storage on OneDrive. The subscription that comes with the drive is valid for 2 years. Through Seagate's Dashboard software backups can be automatically made to services like OneDrive, Google Drive and Dropbox.

Previously also Samsung announced a portable 2.5" 4TB HDD.

Update: Seagate mailed us that the drive doesn't use a single platter, a single drive in an enclosure in the correct information.
