The controllers should support several types of NAND and besides the SATA interface also modern interfaces like PCI Express and  NVMe and SoP (SCSI over PCI Express).  Seagate and eAsic are no stranger to each other, they worked together before on Seagate's Solid State Hybrid Disks (SSHD).

A week ago Seagate announced it will invest more in the SSD market than any other company. Also other companies are buying, most recent are Western Digital acquiring sTec and Velobit. And Sandisk buying SMART Storage. It's expected that more consolidation will happen in highly competitive SSD market. It's expected that companies that are able to manufacturer their own NAND, controllers and caching software will be certain winners, while others only can hope to follow.
