Sidekick owners suffering phone problems

Some T-Mobile Sidekick owners may lose pictures, contacts and other data stored on their mobile device, T-Mobile and Microsoft admitted.

An unknown number of Sidekick owners have complained of several issues for more than one week, with T-Mobile reportedly promising to look into the problem.  Currently, there are more than 1 million Sidekick phones in the hands of phone owners, but neither company estimated how many owners may have phone issues.

Microsoft provides the software and GUI for the Sidekick, with the company attempting to reverse course in an increasingly competitive mobile market.

Oddly enough, Sidekick owners are supposed to have the ability to recover saved information online, in case of a stolen or broken phone, but that may not be the case after all.

Online access has been restored, but some subscribers will find that their information is still missing.  Microsoft said it will try to restore as much information as it can, but won't promise any promises as to how much data can be restored.

Sidekick owners who have the biggest risk of losing data are owners who allow battery life to drain entirely, or anyone who resets their phone by removing the battery.

Microsoft is trying to recover its prominence in the mobile space after several years of struggle.  It's going to be even more difficult for Microsoft now that new hardware and software companies are in the mix, including the iPhone, Google Android, and LiMO.  Microsoft's Windows Mobile has just nine percent control of the mobile market.
