Sony announces credit card size external SSD

Sony today announced a new line of external SSDs, the SL-E series. The credit card sized external drives connect to the Windows and macOS computers through USB-C and are available in capacities of 240GB, 480GB and 960GB.

Sony targets the SL-E SSDs to professional photographers and video creators. The reversible USB-C connector supports USB 3.1 Gen 2 for fast transfers. Sony specifies sequential reads of 540MB/s and sequential writes of 520MB/s. The drive measures 47 x 11 x 80 mm and weighs 50 gram. Sony bundles the drive with ENC Datavault Lite software.

No information on the used NAND or controller is available. Sony lists prices of 169 /£149 for the 240GB drive, €289 /£249 for the 480GB drive, and the 960GB drive is available at €499 /£429. The drives will become available in May this year.
