Cnet reports that an anonymous source has disclosed to them that Sony will introduce a edge lit 84-inch LCD TV that is capable of displaying in the 4K resolution (4,096x3,072). The 4K resolution is the successor of the currently popular HD resolution (1920 x 1080) and could become a new sales driver for TVs in the coming years. Sony has released more products supporting the 4K resolution including a 4K professional camera, Blu-ray player that upscales to 4K and a 4K projector.
Also LG has released a 84-inch 4K TV which is available in its home country Korea, where it is sold for $22,000. LG has confirmed that this TV which has a 3,840x2,160 resolution will also become available in the US and Europe. The Sony TV could be going for about $30,000 and should first be released in Japan.
