Spotify app from Microsoft Store blocks Windows 10 System Restore

The Spotify app from the Microsoft Store causes issues for users running Windows 10 with the Fall Creators Update (build 1709) installed. Once the app is installed, users can no longer use the System Restore feature of the operating system.

Users frequently receive an error stating, “System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.” The error message is often combined with error code 0x80070780 (An unspecified error) and the location of the Spotify.exe file.

So far the issue only seems to occur with the Microsoft Store version of Spotify. The regular (Win32) application, which users can download from the website of the streaming music service, doesn't appear to suffer from the issue.

It's not the first time the issue comes up, already in November 2017 users reported about the problem on Microsoft's Answers Community.

Users who want to continue to use System Restore are advised to not use the Microsoft Store version of Spotify, but instead  download the Win32 application.
