Spotify Introduces New Stories Format to Influencers

Music streaming application Spotify recently offered its new audio format to influencers called Stories. The feature reportedly allows users to share video clips and highlight playlists by sharing it with their respective followers.

The music streaming program is the latest social media platform to join the ranks of those who use the Stories format. Other social media websites that already utilize this feature include Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube.

According to Tech Crunch, the Stories feature is currently in its testing phase. One of the very first influential personalities who used this feature is YouTuber Summer Mckeen. Mckeen has 126,455 Spotify followers, as well as more than 2 million followers each on YouTube and Instagram.

Spotify New Stories Format

To debut the limited release app, Mckeen shared her playlist to the public, which she called “all time besties.”

In a statement, Spotify confirmed the news of its new video format to Tech Crunch. It said, “At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience. Some of those tests end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning.”

Following this, the spokesperson added, “We have no further news to share on future plans at this time.”

All About the Stories Format

Influencers and individuals who have access to the feature may share video clips that have music or song snippets to the public. Apart from video clips and music, users may also share the album art. This allows their followers, in turn, to see and hear the songs in their respective playlists.

As with other similar video formats in other social media platforms, users of the Spotify Story feature have their icon gleaming in a specific color. For the music streaming program, this color is green. The circular icon is also directly placed above the playlist’s title.

Upon tapping the icon, the personality’s stories and videos will play together with their chosen music clips.

The newly released Spotify Stories is reportedly only geared towards select influencers, states Engadget. In 2019, artists have supposedly received their own versions of the feature.

Tech Crunch states the testing group is selected based on their number of followers. In addition, the influencer’s audience engagement and visibility are also reportedly taken into consideration.

As of writing, Endgadget reveals that Spotify has yet to release a statement detailing the number of followers needed to gain access to the Stories format.
