TDK joint venture first victim of very competitive SSD market

The Taiwanese website Digitimes reports that CoreSolid Storage has ceased operations. The company is a joint venture between Japanese  TDK and Taiwanese Power Quotient International (PQI). The latter is a manufacturer of several storage products and has been acquired in 2010 by manufacturer of computer accessories, Foxlink. Since the end of the 80's many Japanese and Taiwanese companies went in joint ventures together to easily access the enormous Chinese market.

The joint venture between TDK and PQI  was started to manufacture solid state disks but Digitimes reports that the fierce competition has made the companies to move away from this market. TDK, the main share holder has stated that it is leaving the industrial memory market due to a change in its strategy and not due to incurring losses. So far the company only announced a 2.5" SATA SSD using MLC NAND. As there are currently a large amount of SSD vendors, it's expected that more companies will leave the market or that there will be some consolidation in the market.
