Team announces 1.8" USB 3.0 external SSD with leather case

The Taiwanese memory manufacturer Team today announced the PD200, a 1.8" external SSD. The drive can be plugged in an USB 3.0 slot and has the size of a business card although it's a bit thicker.

The PD200 measures 93 mm x 53.8 mm x 8.6 mm and is available in capacities of 64, 128 and 256 GB. The drive is based on a 1.8" SSD which, according to Team is designed for the delivering as much capacity and performance possible in the small form factor.  According to Team, the PD200 should make regular 2.5" external HDDs obsolete, it has the advantages of being shock resistant and has a much better performance. Obviously the drawback of the drive is that it offers a lot less capacity.

Team claims that the PD200 can achieve 250MB/s read and 120MB/s writes over USB 3.0. The 64GB model is a tad slower and has a maximum write speed of up to 100MB/s.  The drive weighs only 36 grams and the casing is made of black plastic, Team delivers it with a leather case and a LED indicates whether the drive is transferring data.

The PD200 has a warranty of three years and Team hasn't disclosed any information on pricing and availability.
