Tech Job Openings Surge In Raleigh As Companies Beef Up Services

High-technology job opportunities are rising in Raleigh, one of the key locations for tech-related industries, as companies expand services amid the global pandemic.

IBM, Oracle, and Cisco are leading the demand for new talents in keeping the tech business strong, helping firms transition to more advanced systems and storage. For this initiative, tech companies are looking into beefing up staffing to attend to the growing demand in the tech market.

While the openings dipped slightly in December 2020, the new year revealed that big tech names are in search of tech staff. According to the IT Job Trends report, the capital city Raleigh received a job opening increase of roughly 16 percent year-over-year, or 9,490.

Tech Job Openings Surge In Raleigh

The figure records the second-highest number of openings following Charlotte, then followed by Durham-Chapel Hill on the third spot. Companies specifically look for software developers and computer systems engineers, along with architects.

According to the data, the software jobs are the highest in-demand with 18 percent year-over-year, or 8,310 in total. For the computer systems engineer and architects, the openings reached 11.3 percent or 2,550 openings in total.

Despite the figure, the statewide job openings did fell slightly by 1.6 percent to 27,722. Job opportunities for the financial and professional sectors were flat, but there were 900,000 new jobs added due to the connection with technology.

“With a new administration entering the White House and increased discussion of a broad COVID stimulus package, industry analysts are hopeful for increased recovery in employment opportunities,” said Myrtle Beach from Clarkson Consulting and Momentum.

Diving deeper into the tech industry, more companies are hiring Big Data or IoT specialists to make sense of the data processed by companies. Skilled professionals are needed to monetize and understand complex data sets, take on roles on strategies and data security.

Cybersecurity experts grow in number too, as more firms are considering hiring independent security services to avoid data from being stolen. Cybersecurity with the top certified skills enjoys comfortable employment opportunities.

Machine learning and artificial intelligence experts are in-demand too, or what companies call the data scientists. These jobs are responsible for understanding the needs of companies when improving the interface and network systems.

“It’s common to see an easing of job openings in the fourth quarter due to holidays, so we will see if the typical uptick in the first quarter materializes,” said NC Tech CEO Brooks Raiford.
