The Sun Unveils New Video Format on Facebook

The Sun News UK recently launched a new video format for Facebook last Monday, November 25, 2019. The new approach offering is called ‘The Sun Social Studio.’

The new approach is a Facebook video ad format that provides advertisers “agile newsroom video capabilities.” According to the company’s press release, the avenue seeks to touch base with an off-platform digital audience.

With News UK’s Facebook page having more than 3.3 million individuals, News UK believes that its new platform could reach more people.

Besides News UK’s main Facebook media page, there are also dedicated accounts for other branches of content. These include both the Sport and Savers pages, reveals the press release. Both of these claim to have hundreds of thousands of following on Facebook alone.

Jo Carrigan, head of commercial content, said “The Sun has a loyal and highly engaged audience across all of our social channels including Sun Savers, Dream Team, Fabulous and The Sun itself. We’re expanding our branded content portfolio by launching a social-first video product under its own identity.”

“The Sun Social Studio allows us to put our social expertise into the hands of our clients, providing an agile service, and target this off-platform audience by offering social video branded content capabilities. We are excited to work with The Perfume Shop on this new campaign,” continues Carrigan.

The Bridge, the commercial division of News UK, is handling the campaign. Branded content will remain at the forefront of its campaign.

One of the platform’s first partners is The Perfume Shop, a perfume retailer in the United Kingdom. Under this partnership, the agency handling the project will provide a two-minute video that highlights products for its client. At the very least, the News UK reportedly guarantees one million Facebook views for The Perfume Shop.

The campaign for the perfume retailer will stay online for one week. Having started on the 25th of November, the campaign is slated to end on December 2, 2019.

In a statement, head of marketing for the retail company Karen Harris said, “After Christmas, Black Friday is our biggest trading event where we offer customers top brands at unbelievable prices.”

When asked for their reason for partnering with News UK, Harris shared that “The Sun’s social channels reach our target audience of savvy shoppers and deal hunters. The ability to guarantee 1 million video views in the UK was key to us choosing the Sun Social Studio over a social video agency.”
