This is the new logo of Microsoft's new browser that replaces Internet Explorer

Microsoft's new browser Edge, previously known as Spartan, will get an icon that is similar to Internet Explorer's blue "e".  The information comes from Kyle Pflug, who is part of the team that develops the Edge browser.

The new browser, which will first be available in Windows 10 next to Internet Explorer, has now received its official name. Previously the browser was known as Project Spartan. Yesterday, Microsoft announced the browser would go by the name Edge from now on.

In a second Tweet Pflug has stated that the new logo has "to strike a balance"" between old and new, to make sure the billion Windows users don't get lost.

Edge should give a modern feel compared to Internet Explorer, According to Microsoft. The browser will also introduce new features such a reading list and the possibility to draw on a webpage. Developers will have the possibility to easily port their Chrome and Firefox plugins to plugins for Edge.

Yesterday Microsoft held its annual BUILD conference where it also announced Visual Studio for Linux and Mac, mobile Office addons, Android and iOS app support in Windows 10 and Windows Continuum that allows the Windows 10 desktop version to run on smartphones. Microsoft also released a new build of Windows 10 Technical Preview to Windows Insiders and again demonstrated Hololens.
