Toshiba today announced the TransMemory-EX II series USB 3.0 drives with DDR NAND. The memory sticks are available in capacities of 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB. Toshiba specifies read speeds of up to 222 MB/s and maximum write speeds of 205 MB/s.
That's slightly faster than the previous generation TransMemory-EX series of which Toshiba specified 220 MB/s read speeds and 94 MB/s write speeds. The USB 3.0 drives utilize Toshiba's Double Data Rate(DDR) NAND which sounds more exciting than it actually is as most NAND is of this type.
The drives support software that enables particular blocks of data to be protected with a password lock so files stored in that block cannot be accessed without the password. Toshiba did not provide any availability or pricing information.
