Ubisoft CEO claims piracy rate of 93% on PC games

The CEO of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot, has stated in an interview with GamesIndustry that free-to-play (F2P) games are the future. According to the CEO only 5-7% of the F2P gamers actually make in game purchases but according to him that equals the amount of PC gamers who actually have paid for a physical copy of an Ubisoft Game, the rest is pirated. According Guillemot F2P has more advantages than physical copies as  the revenue from people who play F2P games (in game purchases and advertising)  is more on the long term and gamers are more concerned with the game because they'll play it longer due the possibility of continuous updates.

Besides that, the distribution of the games is cheaper as they are hosted on servers and do not require physical distribution and do not take up expensive retail store space. While F2P games are part of the strategy of Ubisoft, the CEO also has it hopes on next-generation consoles. He expects that with the release of upcoming next-generation consoles the game market will enormously grow again.
