Microsoft announced yesterday that Windows 10 will be released on the 29th of July this year and has started to show a notification in the taskbar of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 systems. Some users however thought the notification was a virus.

On Reddit a long thread emerged of users that suddenly received the “Reserve your FREE Windows upgrade, yes FREE”. Due to the phrasing and the fact that the offer for some users sound too good to be true, the user suspected the notification was caused by spam or a virus. Also on Twitter many users are wondering whether the notification is real or a virus.

Users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 can really upgrade to Windows 10 for free and Microsoft currently allows users to reserve their upgrade.

Do you want to get of the notification, then read on how to uninstall KB3035583 which is the update that causes the notification to pop up.
