Verizon Media Launches New Video Format, Gets Backing by eBay

Verizon Media announced its partnership with e-commerce company eBay last Tuesday, November 19, 2019. The partnership launched Verizon’s new Shoppable video format aimed to bring traffic towards its holiday campaign.

The new Shoppable video format was launched alongside the holiday campaign titled, “The Guy’s Guide to Nailing the Holidays.” The presentation aims to improve customer engagement through its new approach.

“The Guy’s Guide to Nailing the Holidays” provides guidelines for men who want to see the latest offerings across the market. These include gadgets and technology, sporting goods, clothing, collectibles, and more.

Through its partnership with eBay, Verizon Media chief business officer Ivan Markman said they are bringing a multidimensional approach to shopping. Markman said, “we’re closing the loop between content and commerce to drive deeper value for our consumers and brand partners.” Consequently, “we’re excited to partner with eBay this holiday season to continue creating a more engaging experience that connects discovery to purchase.”

According to the marketing and communications firm, the new format aims to bring something new to the market. The format merges the convenience of shopping on an online marketplace together with “shoppable carousels beneath gift guide videos.” This newly launched platform also highlights popular and trendy products from a select line of brands.

The new video format is a combination of a native video player and a shopping carousel that promotes particular products. This approach was primarily created to allow consumers to discover new items while watching videos. This content will also allow viewers to purchase products and add items to their cart while watching, notes Media Post.

To jumpstart its campaign, the communications mogul will release content that highlights its partnership with different influencers. These include Brian Tong for tech and gaming and Tanner Tolbert for lifestyle.

Chief marketing officer for the e-commerce giant Suzy Deering also voiced support for the venture. In a statement, Deering said, “Together with Verizon Media’s shoppable content capabilities and the gifting expertise of influencers like Brian and Tanner, we’re offering eBay’s amazing selection of inventory to help guys everywhere find the best gifts to give and ask for.”

Deering continues, “From rare collectibles to trending fashion and retro-inspired gadgets to the latest tech, eBay provides the value and selection that shoppers are looking for as they seek inspiration this holiday.”

The videos will air on Yahoo Lifestyle. Based on its press release, the communications company will also roll out other features apart from the shoppable video format. These facilities include interactive videos and pictures, curated guides, and a price tracking feature.
