VLC for Android finally ready after 2.5 years in Beta

The developers of the popular open source media player VLC have officially released the Android version of their software. Version 1.0 should bring several improvements over the Beta version. The test version of the app was already released to the Play Store in July 2012.

In the official release the developers have squashed several bugs. Fixed bugs include crashes on devices with Android Lollipop or devices with ARMv8 based architecture such as Cortex A57 or Cortex A53 cores. The developers also added a new interface and several improved features. There is no information on Chromecast support.

The release of the final official VLC for Android app has taken a long time. The developers announced the media player for Android in 2010 already. The first test version appeared in 2012 which was clearly not ready for daily use. Through the years the mediaplayer has been further developed and finally after 2.5 years development,  the developers decided the app was good enough to end the beta stage and release the first final version.
