Windows 10 growth has come to a halt, Windows 7 market share increases

The adoption rate of Windows 10 has come to a halt, according to numbers reported by market analysis company Netmarketshare. While Microsoft's marketing department uses every opportunity to boast about the number of devices running Windows 10, the worldwide market share of Windows PC grew with only 0.06%.

Also competing market analysis company StatCounter reports a small increase of Windows 10's market share. They report a growth of 0.33%.

In the first year after its release Windows 10 grew incredibly fast. Likely because it was a free upgrade for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users. Now, after the free upgrade is no longer available, the growth of Microsoft's latest operating system has come to a halt.

Last month we even reported that Windows 10's market share slightly decreased. Currently the market share is still below that of August 2016. Whether the numbers are worrisome for Microsoft is unclear, many companies still have to switch to Windows 10 which could increase the market share considerably again.

Windows 7 is still by far the most popular Windows version, its market share even grew with nearly 1,4% in the last 4 months. It's installed on 48.38% of all PCs, while Windows 10 has a market share of 22.59%.
