The Windows Insider program for users who want to test Windows 10, now has more than a million registered users, according to Microsoft. About 36% of the Windows 10 testers has installed the operating system on a virtual machine, while the other 64% runs Windows 10 on a PC.
Microsoft states it's happy with that ratio, it shows that users frequently use the OS and not just have a quick look in a virtual environment, the company claims. Another indication that users really use the OS is that 68% of the testers opens more than 7 applications a day. About 25% of the users opens more than 26 applications a day and 5% opens more than 68 applications daily.
Microsoft released the Technical Preview of Windows 10 on October 1st. Users are required to have a Microsoft account to obtain free access to the Windows Insider program. Windows 10 currently mainly brings benefits for mouse and keyboard users. The OS introduces a new start menu with Live Tiles, Metro apps can be run in a desktop windows and Windows incorporates "Task View", an overview of all open applications.
