The release of BioShock 2 helped make the Xbox 360 the best-selling game console in the U.S. in February – claiming the title for the first time in more than two years.
Xbox 360 sales jumped 8 percent year-on-year to 422,000 in February, according to research group NPD. Sony sold 360,100 PlayStation 3s, a 30 percent increase. Meanwhile Wii sales plunged 47 percent to 397,900, a fall Nintendo attributed to supply shortages.
Released on February 10, BioShock 2 sold around 750,000 units – of which 75 percent were for Xbox 360, NPD said. Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros slipped to the second place with sales of 555,600 units, followed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for the Xbox 360. Sony’s exclusive PlayStation 3 title Heavy Rain came in 10th, selling 219,300 units.
