Lascaux Caves, France

Listed in the UNESCO World Heritage, the Lascaux caves were closed down for the general public in 1963. You would be able to discover over 2,000 incredible cave paintings that date back to 17,000 years. In one of the caves, the picture depicted images that appeared to be humans and animals in motion.

The air-tight conditions for centuries helped preserve the mineral pigments that imparted color to the paintings. But soon after its discovery in 1940, the research community understood the sheer impact of thousands of daily visitors on it.

This led to fungus and molds that damaged the nooks and crannies of the cave. For now, the access is only limited to researchers, and only one at time.

North Sentinel Island, India

The North Sentinel Island lays in the Bay of Bengal still remains untouched by modern civilization. It is inhabited by the Sentinelese, who are indigenous and don’t like to be disturbed. The last census taken in 2011, had only 80 to 150 people living on the island.

The little research that exists tells us that the Sentinelese speak an unknown language. They are hunter-gatherers, they build canoes to get around, and carry bows and arrows along with iron-tipped spears. Although the Indian government tried to contact them, every action was met with a violent spree of arrows and weapons.

Since then, the island remains untouched and is forbidden to be visited by anyone. It is also for the best as the Sentinelese people don’t have the necessary immune system to withstand even the common cold.

Ilha Da Queimada Grande, Brazil

This island is restricted to the general public, as it is full of snakes - more specifically deadly Pit Vipers. That’s why it is known as “Snake Island”. The island is also aptly named as the Haven for Lanceheads, as the island has a density of one to five of these snakes every square meter.

This makes it a deadly island to step foot onto, along with housing the most dangerous viper whose venom can even melt your skin. The government has banned regular visitors, and only researchers with prior knowledge about handling snakes are allowed with a mandatory reserved doctor on their team.

Global Seed Vault, Svalbard

If mankind ever faces any apocalypse, it’s safe to say that humans have made it possible to restore vegetation again. A place where this is possible is known as the Doomsday Vault, in Norway, which was opened in 2008.

The Global Seed Vault holds about 100 million seed samples. With the building designed to withstand earthquakes, explosions, and even time (two centuries at least), it is a haven of forbidden mysteries. Plus, the vault has the potential to give rise to new life in a worst case scenario.

Area 51, USA

Area 51, or Source Area 51, located in Southern Nevada, is constantly wrapped in conspiracy theories. It is a US military base, but it has kept its secret for a long time. It has a reputation for being an arm and weapon testing ground, but it is also believed that it is an alien testing ground, too.

This place is totally off-limits for anyone. Plus, the USA government hardly ever acknowledges the existence of this forbidden place.
