Megapixel (Digital cameras)

The image sensor of a digital camera contains millions of dots, better known as pixels. The number of pixels gives the camera’s resolution (9 megapixel = 9.000.000 pixels). Currently most cameras have a resolution between 6 or 19 megapixels for (semi-)professionals. More pixels means more quality, so the resolution is an important measurement to look at before buying, although one should always remember that megapixels by itself is not the primarily reason to prefer one digital camera over the other. When buying a digital camera, it’s always important to look at the total picture.
