Sarotech announces new USB 3.0 HDD enclosures

Sarotech Korea plans to become one of the first companies to release a new HDD enclosure with USB 3.0 support.

Sarotech, best known for its external storage devices and custom enclosures, plans to release the Hardbox 3.0 in February or early March.  The Hardbox will ship with storage capacities of 1 TB, 1.5 TB, 2 TB or 3TB, according to the South Korean company.

The Hardbox has been designed to lay down or stand up, allowing it to be positioned easily regardless of clutter and space constraints.  Additional details about the device will be released prior to launch, which is good since very little is known about the Hardbox 3.0.

USB 3.0 is up to 10-times faster than USB 2.0, but it will still be some time before USB 3.0-powered devices take over the marketplace.  Sarotech's latest product will support transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps.

USB 3.0 was a popular technology at CES earlier in the month, but most product announcements aimed for late 2010 to early 2011 release dates.  I applaud Sarotech for being one of the first out with a product like this -- but until more PCs and notebooks gain USB 3.0 support -- they may not have much demand.
