Uniblue was kind enough to send us a
license of their Registry Booster product for review. Registry Booster is a
commercial product which scans the Windows Registry for problems such as with
file associations, system drivers, shared DLL files, Fonts, uninstall settings,
invalid file paths and a range of other problems that can occur in the
registry.

Besides the inconvenience of error messages
popping up when things go wrong with the registry, some registry problems can
lead to the PC taking longer to perform certain operations such as launch
applications, while worse problems can lead to applications crashing out or
even the whole PC becoming response or stuttering. Most well designed software
packages can overcome most problems that typically happen in the registry,
while legacy or poorly written software will display error messages for minor
registry problems such as a recent files list that contains links to files that
have been deleted or moved.

In this review, we will take a look at the
features in Registry Booster and run some boot and application start up tests
before and after the registry cleaning. We will also introduce a few of our
own registry errors such as invalid shortcuts, file extensions and application
paths to see whether Registry Booster can detect and repair them.

As far as we can tell, Uniblue only
delivers its products electronically and the only thing we received was a
license key to activate the product.

The product is obtained as a trial version
through its website here. When a customer purchases their product, Uniblue sends
the customer a license key which can then be used to activate the product on up
to three computers.

ActiveProtection

When the customer purchases Registry
Booster, they get up to a year of “ActiveProtection”, which gives the user free
support, product updates and upgrades for up to a year after purchase, much
like purchasing an Antivirus package. This ActiveProtection is renewed
automatically using the original billing details, unless the customer chooses
to opt out. The renewal price will be the same price as what the customer
originally paid for Registry Booster.

Further information on ActiveProtection can
be found here.
