Anonymous to take down Fox News website on November 5

Anonymous is clearly displeased with Fox News over the network's coverage of the Occupy movement. Anonymous claims Fox News is broadcasting biased coverage of all the Occupy Wall Street movements happening in numerous cities across the U.S. The hacking collective wants to get back at Fox by taking down their website on November 5, 2011.

A video, claiming to be made by Anonymous, cites Fox Network's "continued right-wing, conservative propaganda against the occupations" to be the reason behind the groups intention of taking out the news site. "Since they will not stop belittling the occupiers, we will simply shut them down."

November 5th is also the day Anonymous previously claimed they would mount an attack on Facebook although nothing else about that attack has been mentioned recently. The date is relevant because of its relationship to Guy Fawkes, a British man who attempted to blow up parliament on that very day in 1604.

Anonymous has clearly been supportive of the Occupy movement since the very start, on September 17. The group has released personal information about the former Citigroup and Goldman Sachs executive Robert Rubin. In addition to that Anonymous has dumped a slew of personal information out about other executives like the CEOs of Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase, and Goldman Sachs. Most recently the group targeted a NYC police officer accused of using pepper spray excessively and without provocation on a number of protesters in the NY Occupy Wall Street protest.

Whether or not the Facebook attack should be taken seriously is definitely up for debate but this threat against Fox News is something I could definitely see Anonymous going through with. Their investment in the Occupy movement is something they have been very vocal about since before protesters even started collecting in NYC on the 17th of September. We'll have to see if Anonymous can actually pull this off and make November 5 a day Fox News will remember.
