Embattled PS3 hacker graf_chokolo seeks legal donations

The past two months have been rough for PlayStation 3 hackers around the world.

In addition to Sony's case against George Hotz in the U.S., the Japanese company managed to scare off Spanish tinkerer Waninkoko and orchestrated a police raid in Germany against Alexander Egorenkov, AKA graf_chokolo. While a number has yet to be attached to Hotz's case, Egorenkov is being sued for 1 million Euros. Unsurprisingly, the German hacker is now seeking donations to cover his legal fees.

Writing on his blog under the heading 'Help graf_chokolo to fight against Sony,' Egorenkov made an impassioned plea to readers and supporters for their help offsetting his current and future legal fees.

"Recently I was working on bringing Linux to PS3 back, as you all know. Unfortunately, Sony managed to stop me," he wrote. "Many of you offered donations to help me continue my work and I always declined. But now I really need your help and support in this fight with Sony."

In case the amount donated exceeds the amount needed, Egorenkov promises he will pass along the surplus to the CCC "so the club could help other guys like me or give it all to some charity organization."

Last month George Hotz also sought donations for his legal defense - a request met with great enthusiasm and generosity: it was closed quickly. Whether his German counterpart will receive the same support is yet unknown. (Via PS3Crunch)
