Mega, the new cloud service from MegaUpload founder Kim Dotcom will give users 50 Gigabytes of free storage. Dotcom himself announced this on his Twitter account today. That means that the storage capacity for Mega is considerably higher than other cloud storage providers like Dropbox (2GB), Google Drive (5GB) or Microsoft Skydrive (7GB). Mega will be launched January 19th on Mega.co.nz.
Dotcom hopes that MegaUpload users will be able to transfer their files to the new service but it's unclear if that will ever be possible due to legal issues. He also wants to give old premium users, those who paid for MegaUpload, a premium status on the new Mega site. Dotcom's laywers have told him that the legal implications are unsure for now. 'We're working on it', according to Dotcom, who is currently in a lawsuit about copyright infringements.
According to the German internet entrepreneur Mega will be an huge improvement over other cloud storage providers. 'It's like time travel. We'll take you to the future!!!', he twittered.
