Newsgroup indexing site Nzbmaxtrix voluntarily shuts down

One of the most popular newsgroup indexing sites, Nzbmatrix, has shut down. The website now shows a message stating that the site received a large amount of takedown requests and was unable to coop with them to adhere to the Digital Copyright Millennium Act (DCMA). The DCMA gives websites owners the opportunity to remove infringing content from their website once notified by the copyright owner before legal actions take place.

The requests to Nzbmatrix were made by the company Wiggin LLC representing large movie studios like Sony Pictures, Walt Disney, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal, and Warner Bros and there were so many requests that Nzbmatrix could no longer deal with them.

The owners of the site also state that they are out of payment providers to use. Payment providers deal with processing payments from users (e.g. creditcard processing) and transferring the money to the owners of the website. Previously we already reported that Paypal froze accounts of Usenet resellers. The owners of the site state that their income is so unstable that they have a hard task in paying for bandwidth and server costs.  Last but not least is the fact that many providers are removing content so that the indexing service becomes pretty useless. Reasons enough to quit it seems and the owners end their statement with:  "So it's time for us to bow out...".
