Our introduction to DDR4 was made when I
tested the more affordable DDR4 RAM from Crucial here,
but there are lots of option out there for faster RAM, and to some also better
looking. So if you don’t want to start tweaking your memory what do you do?

Well you get faster RAM like the Crucial
Ballistix Sport, the main difference when it comes to speed is that the
Ballistix Sport RAM has a default speed of 2400MHz. It also comes with a black
PCB, something that I would have liked to have seen with their value RAM, and overall
they are better looking as you will tell from the pictures on this review.

As it is expected, for the moment only
users that have an X99 motherboard can take advantage of the DDR4, but all this
should change and DDR4 will also be available on the next mainstream platform
from Intel. For the time being I can tell you that you can get the Ballistix Sport
RAM in single, dual, and quad modules, with capacities from 4GB per stick up to
8GB per stick, so if you can afford it you can have 64GB or RAM on your system.
The Crucial Ballistix Sport needs 1.2V to work and has an XPM 2.0 profile ready
to make it even easier to set it up so that you can get the maximum
performance.

Let's take a quick look at the pricing of
the Crucial Ballistix Sport RAM, on the Crucial EU site a 4GB stick starts at €59.99
($56.99 US Dollars) however you could probably find them at a better price at
your local retailer. So far pricing appears to be very completive, and as we
come to expect the RAM comes with lifetime warranty.

We'll start by taking a look at the packaging,
the RAM, and then move forwards to the tests.

Let’s start by taking a closer look at the
package and what it comes shipped with.

Packaging

Simple packaging that details the very
basic information about the RAM kit and their operating voltages. You can see
the timing on the stickers that are on each stick, the box contains all four
modules, and this is all that you will need to be up and running with your X99
system. As we expect Crucial gives its memory a lifetime warranty.

A look at both sides of the Crucial Ballistix
Sport 2400MHz DDR4 RAM.

The front side of the Crucial Ballistix
Sport.

The reverse side of the Crucial Ballistix
Sport, and below a close look at the two stickers that are on the left and
right of the memory stick.

Interestingly the sticker says that this
memory is a product of United States.

We can see the timings, the voltages, the
fact that the RAM is lead free, and that it has an XMP profile.

Also
a quick look on the sticker that is located in the top left of the plastic
case.

Here is a more detailed look at the Crucial
Ballistix Sport RAM, as we can see it’s a 4x4GB kit at 1.2V with default
timings of 16-16-16 at 2400Mhz.

Let’s move on and see what the Crucial shop
has to offer when it comes to RAM.
