Crucial BX500 240GB SSD review

Final thoughts

The release of the BX500 SSD is interesting. It is an affordable drive and with that you will have to make some compromises, mainly with the write performance of the drive. Another thing about the BX500 series that confuses me is that the drive is only available in three capacities, 120GB, 240GB, and 480GB. I have to say that I don’t understand this, as I would have expected the lowest size to be 240GB.

Crucial has changed the design with this series, and I like the new look. I hope that this will continue with their next drives, but I would also like to see the plastic housing go away. The BX500 SSD has very good read performance, in almost all of the tests, and in real world usage the drive was giving results that are mostly very good, for its size, and also for its price. Pricing is another thing that makes this drive very attractive, especially for those that want to upgrade an old laptop or desktop, also if you are not a very demanding user you can have the BX500 for your OS. The Crucial BX500 comes with a three year warranty, and you can use the Crucial’s storage executive suite, a tool that I did not cover here, but it adds more value to the BX500 SSD. The thing that impressed me the most about the BX500 SSD was its power consumption, which was very low and to me this shows the effort that Crucial has put into this.

To sum up, this is what I would say:

“The 240GB BX500 SSD is a drive that offers very good value for money as an upgrade to an old desktop or laptop, and as long as you know what you want from the drive it can be a good option for your OS drive.”

Therefore, I give the ‘Very good’ rating to the Crucial BX500 240GB SSD.
