NeroLINUX is Nero’s first application to run on the LINUX operating system and Nero AG was kind enough to supply us with a serial number so we could fully test this application.

In this review we will be putting NeroLinux through its paces and seeing what this application has to offer to the LINUX user with CD/DVD burning in mind.

Finally the time has come to take a look at the new Pioneer DVR-109 16x DVD-Writer. Let us see if Pioneer have been able to hit the nail on the head this time and create an excellent DVD-Writer. Our hopes are high at least.

Samsung Europe (UK) was kind enough to send us their latest internal DVD writer ‘“ the Samsung TS-H552U. This drive supports 16x DVD±R, 4x DVD±RW and 6x DVD+R DL writing technology – allowing dual layer discs of 8.5Gb to be written.

This review will ‘backup” the Samsung TS-E552U review we posted (10. of April 2005) and we are going to concentrate on the features that the Samsung TS-E552U ‘failed” to do. Like real 16x DVD writing/reading, due to the USB-Bridge limitation in the Samsung TS-E522U.

The idea of this article is to compare disc quality scans obtained using professional tools (AudioDev’s CATS) with the ones obtained from standard PC drives. We will also discuss about the correctness, accuracy and usefulness of these tools when it comes to disc quality measurement. It’s just a short while since we tested the SOHW-1653S, but now there is a new drive already; The SOHW-1673S. We are familiar with Lite-On drives for several years and their drives do usually perform very well and has many features compared to their low price. GameJackal has been designed to do away with the need for both disks and virtual drives in order to play your disks. It creates a small profile of the game that you want to play and then uses that to launch the game without the CD being in the drive.

Version 1 of this program gained a lot of admirers but it was limited in as much as that it couldn’t do the latest copy protections that were available at the time. However the team have been hard at work and have now launched version 2. This has been designed to work with the latest SecuROM and SafeDisc versions as well as many of the other used protections.

We finally have the opportunity to try out a LightScribe drive, thanks to the generous donation of a DVDR16LSK/00 from Philips. This 16x DVD burner has the capability to write to the new light sensitive discs we have all been reading about. We will show you what comes in the retail package and then try a few tricks with the LightScribe discs using the included Nero software.

When I first saw the DVX-POD my first thought it was an iPod on steroids. In many ways though it could have been made by the people at Apple and not instead by Mobinote. It has that distinctive white look with the white earphones that just shouts iPod. But enough about iPod\’s. This is certainly not one as it comes with a 7″ colour screen which is able to show DVD quality movies at an impressive 720×480 resolution.
