Introduction

Frequent Club Myce forum members will quickly
recognize the subject for this review; Hard Disk Sentinel, as we already have a
forum dedicated to this software here
at Myce. The folks at Hard Disk Sentinel have been kind enough to provide a licence
for the PRO version, and their website
has an excellent introduction to this software, which fits in perfectly here:

“Hard Disk Sentinel (HDSentinel) is a multi-OS SSD and HDD monitoring and
analysis software. Its goal is to find, test, diagnose and repair hard disk
drive problems, report and display SSD and HDD health, performance degradations
and failures. Hard Disk Sentinel gives complete textual description, tips and
displays/reports the most comprehensive information about the hard disks and
solid state disks inside the computer and in external enclosures (USB hard
disks / e-SATA hard disks). Many different alerts and report options are
available to ensure maximum safety of your valuable data.

No need to use separate tools to verify
internal hard disks, external hard disks, SSDs, disks in RAID arrays as these
are all included in a single software.”

In this review we will be looking at the
latest official version of Hard Disk Sentinel PRO, which is version 4.40. The
software is available in four different versions spanning from the free trial
to the enterprise version. Here is an overview of these:

This software is supported in Windows,
Linux, and DOS. The paid versions are for Windows only, leaving the Linux and
DOS versions free to use.

The company behind the software, H.D.S
Hungary (2002), also offers custom tailoring to customers with specific needs.
Clients and partners of H.D.S. are home users, server administrators, small and
large companies, and civil organizations.

Over the next few pages we will look at the
HD Sentinel software, mostly from a consumer point of view. Looking into the
functionality and features to see what it has to offer, and if it does what it
claims to do.
