It was back in March 2015 that I last reviewed an SATA SSD.
Since then I’ve been mainly testing NVMe SSDs. SATA SSDs still have their
place, in both the budget and mainstream SSD market, as not everyone is lucky
enough to own a Skylake or Haswell-E PC platform. As a system drive, SATA based
SSDs still have a lot of life left in them, and I expect them to be around for
some time to come.

Today I’m looking at an SSD from ZOTAC. ZOTAC may not be a
name you are particularly aware of, but ZOTAC has been producing PC
motherboards and graphics cards for many years. In fact I still have a media
centre PC built around an Intel Atom, and a ZOTAC ITX motherboard, which still
works flawlessly.

The review sample that ZOTAC has sent me is from the A5P
Premium range, and in this review I will be looking at the 240GB version. 120GB
and 480GB versions are also available. This will also be the first time I have
come across an SSD using the Phison S10 SSD controller.

The ZOTAC ZTSSD A5P Premium SSD is aimed at the upper end of
the budget conscious consumer market, so let's find out how this new SSD
performs in our range of tests.
